Normal service has been resumed for fans of Festive Bakes, sausage rolls and pasties on a Sheffield shopping street – as a city centre Greggs that had to close at short notice has reopened.

A sign in the window of the chain’s outlet on The Moor explained: “We’re sorry but we’ve had to temporarily close our store for essential maintenance. We’ll be open again shortly. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

The shutters were down, and stools were stacked on tables inside, but the lights in the shop had been left switched on.

But today the bakery was trading busily as normal.

A spokesman for Greggs confirmed the store had reopened on Friday, but the firm would not be drawn on why the maintenance was needed, or how long the shop had been shut for. Commenting on Facebook, readers of The Star suggested the bakery had been closed for some time.
