Sheffield's Third Angel invite you to work out conspiracy theory detective story in The Department of Distractions

Sheffield theatre company Third Angel takes a look at conspiracy theories in its show The Department of Distractions.

Called a conspiracy theory documentary exposé detective story for the 21st Century, the show asks: “What aren’t you looking at?”

The show is a ‘play within a play’, with several other stories nested within, and nods to 1980s’ TV shows Moonlighting and The Singing Detective and David Mitchell’s Ghostwritten.

At the heart of the show is an intricately-plotted detective story, said to be full of clues, red herrings and ‘Easter eggs’.

The cast play employees of The Department and the audience learn about their plans, their lives and their controversial work.

The detective story starts to unfold as they explain to a new employee how a story they started has gone dramatically off course, and they re-enact key events as they work out how to regain control of it.

Two nights later, the venue hosts comedy show 100% Simon Brodkin. After three hit BBC series as Lee Nelson, multiple sell-out tours and various court appearances, the award-winning comedian appears as himself​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​.
