Big rise in orders

THE proportion of Yorkshire businesses reporting rising sales, order books and profits rose dramatically in the first half of 2007, according to the Business in Britain survey from Lloyds TSB.

The growth has been matched by rising levels of investment and, despite interest rate increases since the last survey, business confidence in the region has also rocketed.

Lloyds TSB area director, David Mason, said: “2007 is shaping up to be a great year for Yorkshire businesses.

“Sales were so strong in the first half that the prospects for further growth by the end of the year are highly positive.

“A raft of positive indicators from Yorkshire firms provides a solid foundation for optimism in the regional business community, underpinned by strong UK demand and a stable European economy.”
