The awards celebrate excellence in the design of buildings and public spaces across the region and will be presented in November.

n China, crystal and luxury goods retailer Sinclairs has already won one RIBA award for its Glossop Road development, along with a Roses Design Award and nominations for two national housing awards.

Sinclairs’ Christian Sinclair says the building was designed as an advertisement for Sinclairs’ retail business, with an emphasis on “presence, use of space, fluidity, frontage and light.”

Mr Sinclair says his only regret is that planners would not allow the building to have an extra storey to give it even greater presence on West Street and Glossop Road, compared to some of its other recently-built neighbours.
