Sheffield named as worst city in the UK for Christmas shopping

Despite online shopping usually dominating our purchases, a visit to the high street at Christmas is often tradition for many UK shoppers.

A new survey from Premier Inn has revealed the standing of 20 popular UK shopping destinations.

An algorithm was implemented to rank the best Christmas shopping experience, by taking into account factors like how busy each place is, how many shops there are, the size and rating of the Christmas market, traffic, parking and that all important chance of snow.

Sheffield sunk to the bottom of the list, with Premier Inn’s verdict: “Shopping in Sheffield is a favourite for those in Yorkshire, but unfortunately when taking into account the Christmas market, and the ease of the overall festive experience, the city doesn’t quite come up trumps!”

In another controversial ranking, the capital city came in at number 16. London was criticised for its busyness, its size, and the tiring effect retail therapy in the city can have on shoppers.

This isn’t the first time the Steel City’s festive feel has been ranked, with our Christmas markets winning a mediocre 90th place in StayCity’s top 100 Christmas Markets of Europe.
