Young engineers score a 100 per cent pass rate

YOUNG engineering apprentices from four Derbyshire schools have started the second year of their course on a high, after achieving a 100 per cent pass rate for their first year.

The students, all aged 14-16, have been attending the one-day- a-week course at NLT Training Services in Chesterfield.

This innovative programme gives Years 10 and 11 school pupils the opportunity to study for an engineering apprenticeship, at the same time as studying for GCSEs at school.

They gain practical experience in welding and fabrication, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, as well as having work experience with a local engineering company.

The youngsters are part of a successful partnership from four schools in the Derbyshire area: Mortimer Wilson, Swanwick Hall, Tibshelf and Selston Arts and Community College.
