Hallam confirms plan for first-class student experience

As some of the university’s buildings begin to reopen, the procedures have been put in place to support new and returning students to feel safe and secure on campus while still having the best possible university experience.

Students will receive a mix of online learning, with increased flexibility to access lectures and resources, and face-to-face teaching including seminars, group study and use of our world class laboratories.

Other facilities including libraries, food and drink outlets and the gym will also be open with new safety measures in place.

The university is working closely with the Students’ Union to support a safe social experience for students with access to societies and some sport as well as increased support services.

A new area of the university’s website has been launched that outlines the safety measures, which include:

limiting the number of people in buildings to support social distancing;

controls at the entrances and exits of buildings, including temperature checks;

hand sanitisers, face masks and protective screens throughout campus;

an enhanced cleaning programme in all buildings;

a clear track and trace process, following guidance set by Public Health England

safe, quiet spaces in both libraries for working on your own;

campus food outlets offering takeaway services and dedicated reserved spaces in cafes.

Sheffield Hallam University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Chris Husbands, said: “COVID has changed so much for everyone. At Sheffield Hallam, we are determined to use what we’ve learnt to make sure every student has an exciting and engaging course in a safe and supportive environment. We know our teaching is excellent, and that our social activities and support services are first-rate. This autumn, we’ll welcome new and returning students to Sheffield Hallam for an experience which builds on our excellent provision and learns from what we’ve done in the past five months.”
