A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that over the past weeks Public Health England have identified four positive cases of Covid-19 within the pupils at Astrea Academy Sheffield.

“One of these cases was in Year 8, with the remainder in Year 9.

“In line with Government guidance, 135 pupils and one member of staff were then asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

“All affected areas in the school have been deep cleaned as a precaution.

“We understand that this is a worrying time for families and each time there has been a positive case confirmed with the school, within two hours all parents were made aware by a letter. These letters are also available on our website.

“The parents of the children who are identified as a contacts of the pupil with a positive test receive a personalised letter with key instructions for self-isolation and key dates for return.

“For those children required to self-isolate, they have continued with their learning remotely at home.

“Our number one priority continues to be the safety of our pupils and staff and we will continue to make the academy as safe as it can be.”
