Coronavirus hospital patients in Sheffield now at lowest level for almost FIVE months

The number of patients being treated for coronavirus in Sheffield continues to fall and is now at its lowest level since late October.

On the last date for which reliable figures are available – Tuesday, March 9 – 153 patients were in hospital in Sheffield with Covid-19, a fall of 63 per cent from its January 22 peak of 417.

This is the lowest level since October 21 last year, when 148 people were being cared for in Sheffield after contracting the deadly virus.

The number of patients on ventilation is currently 13, a fall of 68 per cent from its February 3 peak of 41.

This is the lowest number since December 18, when 12 people needed help with their breathing at the city’s hospitals.

The falls mirror similar reductions in coronavirus cases and deaths in Sheffield over the last few months.

Yesterday, 106 people in Sheffield tested positive for Covid-19, a fall of 83 per cent from its October 7 peak of 608.
