Five more coronavirus deaths recorded in South Yorkshire

A further five coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in South Yorkshire hospitals, according to the latest daily statistics.

Figures released by NHS England show five deaths were recorded in the 24 hours to 4pm on Sunday, including one in Sheffield.

A further three deaths were recorded in Barnsley, while one death was also recorded in Rotherham.

As of 28 February, 890 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Sheffield hospitals, 735 in Doncaster, 600 in Barnsley and 561 in Rotherham.

The latest available data shows the infection rate in all four local authority areas in South Yorkshire was above the national average in the seven days to 25 February.

Nationally, a further 127 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 83,250

The patients were aged between 46 and 99 years old. All except one – aged 58 – had known underlying health conditions.
