McDonald’s reopens: Huge queues down major Sheffield road as cars block oncoming traffic

Traffic is backed up in Hillsborough as customers queue up to get to the McDonald’s Drive-Thru which has reopened, having been closed for due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Cars are queuing up Penistone Road, causing a backlog of traffic to move slowly in the area and impact those trying to get to into Morrisons.

One driver who was caught in the traffic said: “People were going through lights even though no access at other side, so blocking off the oncoming traffic going towards Bradfield Road.”

McDonald’s announced that all of its Drive-Thrus would be reopening this week between Tuesday and Thursday.

However, workers at the restaurants said they were ‘fearful’ of returning to work and becoming ill while the coronavirus pandemic persists.

The fast food giant closed all of its restaurants on March 23, following lockdown restrictions put in place by the Government.
