The image shows about a dozen young people gathered in a park on Wensley Street, Grimesthorpe in spite of new government rules banning gatherings of more than two people.

On the picture, one woman told The Star: “Just stay home. I cannot stress enough the seriousness of staying home. Simple rules. Faster we react, the quicker we can go back to normal.”

The woman said police were informed of the gathering.

It comes as the UK public was instructed to stay at home to protect the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

South Yorkshire Police also warned they are ‘willing and able’ to use new powers given to them to fine and arrest people disobeying the new rules. The force’s chief constable said they should be able to use these from Thursday.
