Sheffield coronavirus death toll rises as UK records lowest Wednesday increase since lockdown

One more person has died with coronavirus at hospital in Sheffield since yesterday, according to latest NHS figures.

The latest increase means there have now been 278 coronavirus-related deaths in the city’s hospitals.

Elsewhere in South Yorkshire, the number of deaths in Rotherham stayed at 178, and in Barnsley it stayed at 130. Three more people died in Doncaster, meaning that there have been 201 fatalities there.

Across the country a further 88 people who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 27,707.

Patients were aged between 43 and 102 years old. Three patients (aged between 53 and 87) had no known underlying health conditions.

The latest figures from NHS England are for confirmed deaths at hospitals in the 24 hours up to 5pm on Tuesday, June 9. They do not include deaths at care homes or elsewhere in the community.
