The three Sheffield neighbourhoods with no Covid deaths so far

Three Sheffield neighbourhoods have seen no deaths from coronavirus so far, according to new figures.

The latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that of the 70 designated neighbourhoods in the city, three have recorded no deaths from Covid-19 during lockdown.

These areas were the Devonshire Quarter, Ecclesall & Greystones and Springvale & Steelbank.

The data, which was published by the ONS on August 28, is accurate from the start of March, when the lockdown began, to the end of July.

Between March 1 and July 31 there were 51,831 deaths in England and Wales that involved the coronavirus which represented 20 per cent of all 259,199 deaths over this period.

Vaccine trials are expected to start in autumn with hundreds of people across Sheffield signing up to take part so far.

On Friday, Sheffield’s director of public health, Greg Fell, warned that the city should brace for a rise in cases this autumn.
