Drop in visits to A&E at Sheffield Children's Hospital

Fewer patients visited A&E at Sheffield Children's Hospital last month – and attendances were lower than in October last year, figures reveal.

NHS England figures show 3,205 patients visited A&E at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust in October.

That was a drop of 17 per cnet on the 3,867 visits recorded during September, and 42 per cent lower than the 5,524 patients seen in October the previous year.

The majority of attendances last month were via major A&E departments – those with full resuscitation equipment and 24-hour consultant-led care – while 4 per cent were via minor injury units.

Across England, A&E departments received 1.6 million visits last month. A six per cent decrease.
