Sheffield care firm team raise amazing £1,000 in a day for dementia charity

A Sheffield home care company has raised more than £1,000 for Dementia UK with a fundraising day.

Helping Hands Sheffield ran the ‘time for a cuppa day’ at their offices on Hutcliffe Wood Road in Beauchief.

The firm supply home care to elderly and disabled people and decided to support the charity as they are dementia specialists. They ran the event on Tuesday (May 17) to mark Dementia Action Week, which this year runs from May 17 to 23.

Terri Dyson from Helping Hands said: “We set out with a target in mind of £55 which would have covered the cost of 20 phone calls to the Dementia UK helpline. We actually raised an incredible £1,043 which will cover the cost of an Admiral Nurse for a whole week.

“The whole team have put so much effort into this day making it the success it as it has been and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing community, companies big and small have donated over 50 prizes to us which we raffled off live on Facebook.

“We were especially blown away by the smaller companies’ generosity, even though they have been so directly effected by the pandemic, their willingness to help out has been overwhelming.

“We have had so many people buy tickets from us and although there were some great prizes up for grabs, this was mostly due to the fact that every one of them has been or knows someone that has been effected by dementia.”

Stocksbridge Park Steels football club first team manager Chris Hilton and captain Liam Mcfayden drew the raffle along with one of Helping Hands’ customers, Chris.

Regional care manager Leigh Jepson said: “As the Area Care Manager for HH in the North I couldn’t be prouder of what the Sheffield team have achieved in their community efforts in raising the profile of dementia.

“Initially with a target of £50, they have gone above and beyond and raised a staggering £1,043 which will fund a brand new Admiral Nurse for an entire week. This is life-changing support to families facing dementia.”
