Smokey was abandoned in the woods, and stayed where he was, faithfully waiting for his owner to come back - despite not being tied up.
Faith the Presa Canario was tied up and abandoned, found on a rainy night caked in mud and "emaciated". Luckily, she was found and bought to safety. Could you be the next good thing to happen to her?
Some of the newcomers at Thornberry include Luna, a unique Saluki cross, lovely one-eyed Betty the bulldog, and Alice the poodle cross.
The gallery below includes all of Thornberry's 16 hopefuls, along with 11 dogs from the council's kennels.
We will bring the other half of the council's furry residents to The Star next week, but if you want to get to know them before then, you can find them all on Sheffield Council Stray Kennels' website.
Meg is a gentle ex-racing Greyhound who is now ready for her new home. She is aged four years old, and is relatively new to Thornberry so she is still coming out of her shell. The kennel staff are beginning to see more of her personality as the days go by. She could potentially live with another sighthound given a successful dog introduction here at Thornberry, and she could live with children aged 10+.
Ex-racing Greyhound Rue would benefit from a home with a large garden as she is often seen sunbathing in the shelter's outdoor areas. She could potentially live with other sighthounds dependent on a successful dog introduction at Thornberry.
Rocky, a two and a half-year-old pug X Jack Russell, is full of beans and always wants to be on the go. Rocky would benefit from an active household where children are aged 12+. He is still very puppy like so would benefit from attending training classes as part of his adoption criteria. Rocky could live with other dogs dependent on a successful dog introduction here at Thornberry and has previously lived with cats.
5-year old poodle cross Alice is a lovely girl who will thrive in a quieter home which can provide her with some further basic training. A garden is essential for her adoption. She has enjoyed spending time walking with other dogs so would be happy to have walking friends but best suited as the only dog in the home.
