Thirty Eight Micropub Ltd has applied for a premises licence for the small bar at 38 High Street in Mosborough, on the site of the old Mosborough Motor Spares shop.

Councillors approved a change of use application last year, and now the owners have asked for permission to supply alcohol, play recorded music and host live acts from 9am to 11pm, seven days a week.

The trend for micropubs, which are often no bigger than an ordinary living room, has swept the country over the past decade as new uses have been sought for retail units.

In Sheffield the first micropub to launch was The Beer House on Ecclesall Road in 2014 – since then the likes of Itchy Pig in Broomhill, the Chapeltown Tap House and Gin Bar, Guzzle in Woodseats and Brewer & Hop in Nether Edge have joined the movement.

At a planning committee meeting in September, Thirty Eight Micropub’s representative Robert Bryan told councillors the venue would be a good neighbour – in particular by discouraging people from standing on the pavement and smoking outside.

“We are talking about 40 people in there at any one time,” Mr Bryan said. “This will add vitality and viability to the local centre.”

Representations on the licensing application must be made to the council in writing by January 16.

The micropub is expected to open in spring.
