In a survey conducted by Redrow, 64 per cent of Yorkshire respondents said they most wanted private outdoor space and bigger kitchens, as well as to be near green open space and smaller shops for essential items.
But, as working from home continues to be a fixture of daily life, 47 per cent of respondents said they suspect that they will continue to go into the office part-time when lockdowns are lifted – so easy access to the city centre is a must.
So if you want to live close enough to Sheffield city centre for work but benefit from plenty of space, where should you buy a new home?

1. Crookes
Crookes is consistently regarded as one of Sheffield's most convenient suburbs. There are homes of all sizes, from semi-detached family houses to terraces and apartments, plus the area is on the 52 bus route as well as being within walking distance of the city centre. Its high street is populated by a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs too, including The Punch Bowl, acclaimed eatery No Name and popular children's boutique Small Stuff. Photo: Andrew Roe
2. Dore
Dore is one of Sheffield's most exclusive neighbourhoods, and homes come with a price tag to match, but its strengths as a place for commuters are strong - it has its own railway station, offering services into the city centre as well as out to Manchester. Large houses with gardens are plentiful and the spectacular Peak District is on the suburb's doorstep. Photo: Chris Etchells
3. Chapeltown
Chapeltown - in north Sheffield - can offer affordability along with good transport links. Unlike most areas of the city, it is close to the M1, and it has its own railway station with services to Sheffield, Huddersfield and Leeds. Photo: Alex Moore
4. Meadowhead
Meadowhead - and neighbouring Norton and Greenhill - is a good spot for family homes with garden space. Those looking to commute to Sheffield or Chesterfield via the A61 will find it convenient, plus the green expanse of Graves Park is close by. Photo: Google
