Here are 9 of the best towns and villages where you could stay in and around the Peak District National Park for a fabulous staycation.
9. Matlock
Matlock is another good base for a staycation in the Peak District as it has good transport links. Local attractions include the steam trains run by Peak Rail from Matlock to Rowsley, Crich Tramway Village, Matlock Bath Illuminations in September and October, Cromford Mills - the world's first factory system - and the Heights of Abraham, where a ride in a cable car between limestone cliffs affords wonderful views of the Derwent Valley. 10. Castleton
Castleton is an ideal destination for a holiday in the Peak District. First of all it does have a castle - the ruined Peveril Castle which dates from Norman times - and it is the only place in the world where the semi-precious Blue John stone is found. Visitors can explore show caves and walk up Mam Tor for breathtaking views. Photo: Jason Chadwick
