It means that people in Sheffield will know with confidence that nothing will change across their new Zen broadband contract; and they can plan their monthly outgoings with no price rise surprises.

It comes as Zen Internet -  which is following the CityFibre network rollout across the UK including in Sheffield - has revealed the result of independent research it commissioned.

The research - conducted by Opinion Matters - showed that two-fifths of people surveyed had experienced a mid-contract price rise from other broadband providers within the last year. This left people feeling angry (45%), frustrated (40%), and deceived (25%).

The survey also showed the three things which customers consider paramount from a broadband provider: The monthly contract price, reliability, and speed.

Zen, the UK’s only Which? recommended broadband provider offers the best service it can across all three. The fee will be the same throughout the contract

David Barber is the Strategy Director at Zen Internet.

He has said he is disappointed with the broadband industry’s poor reputation for communications and managing expectations, and that disillusionment with other broadband providers stems from people being encouraged to sign up via special offers. However, mid-contract price rises are introduced later down the line.

By contrast, people who sign up with Zen in Sheffield, will have a contract price promise in place.

The fee will be the same throughout the contract. Prices can be from £28 a month, up to £40 a month, depending on the broadband speeds opted for.

The promise, says Barber, comes when many people will see their monthly bills from other broadband providers rise in the Spring because of the UK Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase of 4% plus an extra margin, around 3.9%.

People in Sheffield can get ahead of the curve

The survey showed that reliability and speed are also major factors when people choose a broadband provider.

The 2020s, says Barber, will be  “deemed the gold rush decade” as full fibre will  be implemented across the UK.

By 2030, he says “everyone will have made the switch to full fibre”.

He continues: “Today, people in Sheffield can get ahead of the curve by accessing full fibre with Zen over CityFibre’s high quality infrastructure.”

Zen’s full fibre releases the future potential of every smart device, and a home’s entire broadband requirements. It even nods to the future, supporting the Internet of Things (IoT), enabling many digital applications within our homes.

The next few years, Barber says, will be pivotal for connectivity in the home.

The rollout is moving away from traditional old broadband which has been delivered by copper wires.

Those wires did their job, but now as the future becomes more digitally-savvy,  the need for a modern choice has never been greater.
