"Getting the licence agreed was the final step in making it happen and now we can look forward to welcoming local cinemagoers to enjoy our unique leisure experience.

"This modern development scheme is changing the face of Barnsley town centre and really lends itself to one of our next generation multiplex cinemas.

"The venue will boast 13 theatres with over 2,000 seats, including a full height 450 seat Super Screen.

"It will feature the very latest digital surround sound systems with curved wall to wall, floor to ceiling screens, stadia seating and plenty of leg room."

Construction has already begun on the inital stage of The Glass Works, the £130 million transformative retail and leisure development in the town centre.

This includes the new Library @ the Lightbox and a transformation of the Metropolitan Centre which will provide a brand-new home for the town's famous markets.

The second stage of the development, which includes Cineworld, Superbowl UK, 26 shopping units and 7 family-friendly restaurants, will begin later this year, with Barnsley Council and development managers Queensberry working towards a completion date of 2020.
