Airport sees increase in passengers

ROBIN Hood Airport saw an increase of more than a quarter in the number of passengers flying to and from South Yorkshire over the bank holiday weekend.

Figures released today show a 27.6 per cent increase in the numbers on the same weekend in 2007, taking the figure up to 19,805.

Airport managing director David Ryall said: "The stunning facilities we have to offer match the range of destinations we are now linked with.

I'm delighted to report the significant increase in passenger throughput year on year, which demonstrates what an impact Robin Hood Airport continues to have on the region."

Meanwhile, the airport will have more flights to Geneva from December.

Thomsonfly has announced plans on the route from December because of demand from skiers and people wanting a cultural break.

Over 80,000 passengers fly away on winter sports holidays from Robin Hood each year.

Guy Stephenson, Thomsonfly's commercial director, said: "Thomsonfly is always looking at ways of improving its service to customers at Robin Hood Airport, and the introduction of the Geneva route has come about by listening and responding to customer demand.

"We're thrilled that the response to the Geneva route has been so strong and feel confident that the increased frequency will reinforce Thomsonfly's dominant position as the low fares airline for South Yorkshire."
