Alice is over the rainbow after her talent show win

SHE'S Doncaster's Pop Idol!

Alice Telford has come out on top in the search for a star launched by borough entertainer Reece Lightning – and she's now going to be treading the boards as part of the cast of Reece's own show on its national tour in the autumn.

Alice's renditions of Kylie's Love at First Sight and show tune Over the Rainbow came out on top in the talent concert organised by Reece and he's delighted that the songbird is to hit his stage.

"Alice is incredibly talented and it will be pleasure to perform with her," Reece said. "It's really great to be giving a local entertainer who's just starting out in the business a chance."

For Alice, 21, who is from Armthorpe, the role in the show is a dream come true.

"I've just finished drama school and I've put in for various auditions but I hadn't heard anything until Reece called," she said.

"Later on that day I got calls inviting me for two other auditions – I guess it was just my lucky day!

"It was a great surprise to win and I'm thrilled – being on stage has always been my dream."

All-round Doncaster entertainer Reece Lightning is currently surfing a wave of success, with his second film, Amnesia, awaiting release later this year. He is also set to play a starring role as compere of South Yorkshire's first ever gay and lesbian festival in Doncaster Market on August 19.

His self-promoted stage variety show – the Reece Lightning Show – played two successful nights at Doncaster Dome in December and that gave the enterprising entertainment entrepreneur the idea to take the show on the road.

"I just want it to be as entertaining a night as possible for everyone," Reece said. "We've got singers, dancers, a magician and a band – we're really covering the spectrum of entertainment. It's a spectacular show, with high production values – it's a great night out for all the family.

"We haven't got a date lined up yet, but I hope I'll be able to bring it to Doncaster – playing your hometown is a real thrill, as I'm sure Alice will discover."

Reece's autumn tour begins at Retford's Majestic Theatre on Friday September 14.
