Amateur stage round-up

IT'S not very often you see comedian Ben Elton featured in the Amateur Stage column... but then it's not often that an Elton West End hit gets a local premiere!

Splinters Theatre Company present their version of Ben Elton's Queen musical we Will Rock You - a first for Sheffield - at the University Drama Studio from October 9 to 13. Included in the cast of the show are several well-known local faces including James Parkin, Kate Newey, Abi Weigold and Louise Radcliffe.

FANS of old time music hall will be pleased to know that Alf Bailey of Bravo Productions is currently organising the next Magnificent Mixture of Music, Mirth and Magic. The company will be appearing at the Library Theatre Sheffield, Pavilion Gardens Buxton, Civic Theatre Rotherham and Lyric Theatre Dinnington next April. MANOR Operatic Society know all about the problems of flood damage as their home and rehearsal room in The Wicker was badly affected by the recent deluge.

The company has decided, however, that there are still many people in a worse position than they are and so they have made a 1,000 donation to the city's flood relief fund. Rehearals begin soon for the company's next pantomime, Robinson Crusoe, which runs at the City hall from December 27 to January 6. For prioority booking information call 01709 365108.
