Ambassadorsstart patrols on bikes

CITY Centre Ambassadors are to be given bikes to help them patrol the streets of Sheffield.

These will be officially handed over to the team tomorrow as part of Sheffield’s first-ever city centre motor show.

Ambassadors will use three bikes to patrol the streets alongside Police Community Support Officers, to help them get around the city quicker and cover a greater area on their shift.

City Centre Ambassadors carry out a number of functions, including giving out information to members of the public, issuing penalty notices for dropping litter and dog fouling, helping with crowd control, deterring shoplifting and reporting problems they encounter to the relevant authorities.

The Motor Show, organised by Sheffield Council and MoorSheffield, is to be staged at a number of locations across the city centre including The Moor, Peace Gardens, Millenn-ium Square and outside the Town Hall.

Local car clubs and car dealerships are providing vehicles and experts for the day and information will also be available about the city council's car-sharing schemes. The show will run from 11am until 4pm
