Another pub is not needed

After reading an article in The Star, Saturday, November 19, regarding 'Chain plans community-style pub on land formerly used by Chaucer School', it is clear to me the company, Marstons, have been misinformed of the need for a new pub in the area around Chaucer Road.

The pubs and clubs in this area are all trying to provide a service to the community in difficult times.

The club I frequently use is Wadsley Bridge WMC.

I have used the club since 1946.

It provides free use of facilities for weddings, funerals, parties, charity events, dancing classes, allotments, fitness classes, pantomimes, bonfire night, Halloween and seaside excursions.

Because of the easy availability of alcohol in supermarkets and other outlets, the younger generation tend to drink at home on cheap booze, so adding another pub to already suffering pubs and clubs does not make any sense at all.

Why not consider building a state-of-the-art youth club?

Sheffield is noted for its up-and-coming talent and this would be right in the centre of a large estate.
