Appeal renewed for witnesses to five year old girl's pool drowning

POLICE are trying to trace everyone who was in the pool at The Dome last Saturday when a five-year-old girl drowned.

After viewing CCTV tapes from the Doncaster leisure centre they have renewed an appeal for witnesses to the incident in which little Harjeet Kaur Rathor died a week ago.

The youngster was pulled unconscious from The Lagoons at The Dome Leisure Centre at around 3.30pm on Saturday and despite the efforts of lifeguards and paramedics she was pronounced dead at Doncaster Royal Infirmary around two hours later.

Detectives have been studying CCTV footage and believe there may still be people who were at the pool at the time that have not yet been in contact with police.

They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who might hold information to contact DC Andy Milner or DC Karen Betts on 01302 385661 or 385676.

Harjeet’s devastated father, Narinder Singh, a shop assistant, said at the family home in Leeds the family had gone to The Dome as a treat.

The tearful 28-year-old said: “It was a summer holiday treat but it ended in every parent's nightmare. We have lost a lovely little girl who was fun-loving, playful and such a loving person. She touched the hearts of anyone she met.

“She was our only daughter and came from a caring family. We loved her loads and deeply miss her”.

Mr Singh added his family had been helped by relatives, friends and neighbours.

“We are grateful and want to thank them for all the support they have given,” he said.

An inquest has been adjourned by the Doncaster Coroner and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating Harjeet’s death.
