Outline proposals to knock down and build housing at popular Baldwin’s Omega, on Brincliffe Hill, were approved by Sheffield Council’s planning committee last week.

However owners David and Pauline Baldwin stress they sought permission for a five year timescale which means work will not be starting in the near future, and the popular restaurant will remain open.

Mrs Baldwin, who with David has run the restaurant for 35 years, said: “We don’t intend to go for the next few years and Mr Baldwin is definitely not retiring. It is his lifetime’s work and he doesn’t want to leave it, we have fantastic support from lots of people in Sheffield.”

“It is very much a long term plan.”

The plans were approved, subject to conditions, including requirement for any scheme to have ten per cent of affordable properties.
