Barnsley: Why Morais believes Reds relegation wouldn't be a failure

Morais took the helm at Oakwell after Paul Heckingbottom’s departure to Leeds United in February.

The Portuguese manager, formerly Jose Mourinho’s right-hand man at Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea, was tasked with turning a sinking ship around.

However, the Reds have just two games left to secure their Championship status - the first of which is against play-off-chasing Brentford at Oakwell tomorrow.

If they lose and Bolton Wanderers win, a return to League One will be confirmed with a game to go.

When asked whether he would see relegation as a failure, Morais replied: “No, definitely not. I did and I’m doing the best I can. I believe that with time that everything will be different.

“I see things moving forward and I believe in the things that I’ve built. I believe in organisation, building stability and continuity.”

Morais has come under fire during his time at Oakwell.

But, despite just two wins in 13 games since taking over, he believes he is the man to lead the club forward.

He said: “You are not always the one who pleases everyone. I’m not expecting to please everyone in life. I believe in what I’m doing and I really believe what I’m doing is the best that can be done.

“I think that I’m getting the best out of the players.”

The Reds are two points behind Bolton and are hoping Burton Albion can do them a favour.

However, Morais insists the Reds have to focus on themselves first and Bolton’s result second.

He added: “We can only control what we’re doing. We’ll be focused on our own capabilities first and then we’ll look at the other results after.”

Meanwhile, Reading are still interested in Barnsley striker Tom Bradshaw. The Royals have been chasing the former Walsall hitman for months and are ready to make their move in the summer.
