Bid to get school leavers to Aimhigher

COLLEGE students and Doncaster school pupils put on a show to encourage school leavers to stay on in education after leaving school.

Crowds at the Doncaster College’s The Hub base at Doncaster Waterfront saw students taking part in 10 activities as part of Aimhigher, a scheme which tries to keep teenagers learning.

Barnsley-based More! Productions helped run the show which included singing, a theatre piece created by students from Hungerhill School, a Big Brother Diary Room and arts and crafts displays.

Beth Goddard of More! Productions said: “The effort that was put in could be seen by all and it goes to show that these youngsters could easily go on into higher education and do really, really well.”

Coun Eva Hughes, Doncaster Council’s lead member for children, said: “We wanted to show these young people that it can be fun to learn and I think that this has definitely proved that.

The Aimhigher programme is a great way to encourage those who would not usually consider higher education to think about the benefits and opportunities available.”
