Army bomb disposal specialists were sent to a Sheffield residential street – after a resident stumbled upon what was thought to be a bomb.

Residents on Burgoyne Road, Walkley, were surprised to see the army turn up, along with police, late yesterday afternoon.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: “Police were deployed to Burgoyne Road Sheffield yesterday (Friday 21 April) after the discovery of a suspected old mortar shell. The Army’s EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) attended and recovered the shell which will be disposed of safely.”
