Bus services for shoppers

TWO new community bus services have been developed to help residents in Darnall.

The council Transport Services team has laid on the buses to link up to the Asda and Morrisons supermarkets.

A similar service in Owlthorpe has been described as “a great success” by transport bosses with more than 200 people using it every month.

Coun Mary Lea, the council’s cabinet member for sustainable environment, said: “There has been a reduction in mainstream buses that serve some estates in Sheffield, such as the Greenland Road area, and the Asda free bus has been finished, so we wanted to provide a basic service to help local residents who do not have their own vehicles.”

An Asda bus runs on Mondays from Basford Street at 10.30am, running along Chapelwood Road, Phillimore Road and Coleridge Road, stopping near the top of Clipstone Gardens, Palmer Road, Greenland Road, Greenland Way, York Road, Main Road, then to Asda. It leaves at 12.30pm.

A Morrisons bus operates on Fridays from Basford Street at 10.30am on the same route but going from Main Road to Morrisons and returning at 12.30pm.
