Celebrity fans react to Sheffield Wednesday play-off defeat

In the wake of yesterday's match that saw Hull win promotion to the Premiership with a single goal, famous Sheffield Wednesday fans have given their views on the play-off final.

Owls fan and Sheffield artist Pete McKee said: "The one thing that will stick in my mind is the amazing support from fans.

"The fact that the television cameras were shaking because the Wednesday fans were cheering so loud tells you all you need to know.

"We can build on this for next season, and I have confidence that Carlos Carvalhal is a good coach, and I think the fans are behind him too."

Martyn Ware, from Sheffield band Heaven 17, who attended the game with his son Gabriel – and arrived in a special limo he called the ‘Owlsmobile’ said: "We were beaten by a barely superior team on the day.

"When you look at it in the cold light of day, you can't say there was much between the two teams - and that was shown earlier in the season when we drew with them. But when they got that goal - and it was an incredible goal - at that point in the game it was hard to come back from that.

Commenting on the atmosphere at Wembley, Martyn added: "It was incredible, I've never seen anything like it. It was a thing of immense pride for me to see them there. It was an extremely emotional and beautiful thing to watch.

"The point is we didn't win the match - but we won the club, we now have our club back and I know we're going to come back stronger next season."

Wednesday-mad Reverend and the Makers frontman Jon McClure said on Twitter: "Absolutely gutted. Congratulations Hull players and fans (Except Snodgrass)"

Former Jackson 5 star Jermain Jackson, who started following the Owls in the late 80s and wrote a song for the game, said on social media: "Tough result. But Sheffield Wednesday has the spirit to bounce back stronger next season. Incredible support!
