Chamber poll sets record

THE number of business people vying to serve on Sheffield Chamber of Commerce's council has reached new record levels.

A total of 26 candidates have put themselves forward for the 16 vacancies, five more than last year’s record of 21.

Chamber company secretary and finance dirctor Stephen Mitchell said: “We are particularly pleased to see so many candidates and from such a diverse range of sectors clearly reflecting the composition and make up of the transforming Sheffield economy.

“The chamber may be 150 years old but we are evidently also continuing to be viewed as a relevant, modern and forward-thinking organisation that businesses wish to be involved with.”

Chamber members have until August 24 to vote.
