Chief sees care scheme

HEALTH chief David Behan dropped in on Barnsley - to meet adults looked after by social services and their carers.

Mr Behan, the Department of Health’s director general of social care, was shown a new extra care scheme for older people at Lavender Court in Kendray.

He viewed the supported independent living apartments and spoke to residents.

The housing scheme links accommodation with care to provide older people, either single or couples, with their own high-quality flats.

Later, over lunch at the Town Hall, he met service users and members of Barnsley Arena - an organisation that works to improve health and social care services in the borough.

Martin Farran, interim executive director of Adult Social Services, said: “It was a pleasure to show David how we are working together to provide a high quality of adult social care services in Barnsley.”
