City projects in running for National Lottery prize

TWO major Sheffield projects are in the running for national awards - but need readers' votes to beat the competition.

The Winter Gardens, pictured, and iceSheffield, in Attercliffe, are in the semi finals of the National Lottery Awards, which recognise the best projects paid for with proceeds from the good causes fund.

Winners are being decided through a public poll online at www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards or by phoning 0845 3868091.

All votes must be cast by Friday.

Sheffield Council leader Jan Wilson said: "It is really exciting to have two projects make it into the semi finals of the National Lottery Awards.

“It is fantastic to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of those involved in the projects. It would be great if both projects get into the finals."

The Winter Gardens has been nominated for the Best Environmental Project accolade, while iceSheffield is up for Best Sport Project.

Three entrants in each category which have the most semi-final votes go through to the final.

Winners will then be chosen in September and presented with awards on live television.
