Claw hammer armed robbery sparks police appeal

An appeal has been launched after an armed robbery with a claw hammer.

At about 6.20pm on February 8, police were called to the Co-operative store on Rotherham Road, Great Houghton, Barnsley after two men entered the store and threatened staff with a claw hammer.

Both men had their faces covered and were wearing hoodies with the hoods up. They fled the scene on foot with cigarettes and a quantity of cash. There were no injuries sustained by anyone but staff have been left distressed by the incident.

One man is described as around 6ft tall, of a medium build and was wearing a blue/grey coloured hoody, black gloves. He also had a black scarf covering his face.

The other is described as around 6ft 3ins tall, of a slim build and was wearing a green hoody, black gloves and had a dark coloured mask over his face.
