Clean-up trio go to the top to sort footpath problem

PUPILS went straight to the top when they decided to take action over a problem path running next to their Sheffield school.

The youngsters at Limpsfield Juniors in Brightside were so unhappy about dirt, litter and overhanging shrubs on the path that they wrote to council leader Jan Wilson.

They even sent in photos to the Town Hall to show just how bad the problem was, with the help of their teacher Richard Broad. And soon something was being done.

Workers from the Street Force operation teamed up with rangers from the Parks and Countryside Service to organise a clean up.

The children helped out too as the team removed a TV set, car parts and a sofa, among many other items. Altogether two truck loads of rubbish were cleared from the site.

Coun Wilson said: “This was a good introduction to the pupils’ education of how to go through the democratic process to get things done.

“Their letters were very well presented and they described the problems they faced clearly and concisely. I was pleased that our staff were able to deal with the problem and that the pupils got stuck in too.

“One of our Street Force officers will be visiting the school again to thank them for their hard work and explain the importance of keeping the local environment clean,” she added.
