Crack cocaine seized by cops

Operation Maximum Impact is now in its fourth week - with dozens of arrests already being made in the Rotherham area.

In the latest stage of the crackdown, one man was arrested for suspected drug dealing in Swinton and 4,000 seized, while two people were arrested on suspicion of intent to supply crack.

In Wath, 14 arrests were made this week and seven vehicles recovered after registrations were spotted by the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system.

Police spokesman Adam Oxley said: "Police this week focused the summer crackdown on vehicle crime.

"Members of the Wentworth North Safer Neighbourhood Team recorded further excellent results for the operation with seven vehicles seized and 12 fixed penalty tickets issued.

"And during the operation, the stopping of vehicles led to the arrest of two people for possession with intent to supply crack cocaine.

"Partners from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency checked over 100 vehicles in Wath and Rawmarsh for illegal red diesel, issuing 1,250 in fines.

"In addition to this, officers also executed seven drug warrants on Tuesday with six arrests.

"Around 4,000 was seized when one man was arrested in Swinton for drug trafficking.

"Police Community Support Officers made leaflet drops to residents to inform them about the multi-agency activity taking place.

"A total of 14 arrests were made with offences including theft and breach of bail, adding to the drug results."

Police and Rotherham Council officers also staged a walkabout in the Wentworth North area to get across the message that people should not hide in the fight against crime.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service also distributed shed and window alarms.

Operation Maximum Impact on Crime runs until September 30 and involves North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Humberside.
