Officers from the city centre neighbourhood policing team are hoping to locate the man, following reports a purse and wallet were taken from a flat on Solly Street. The incident is said to have taken place in a Velocity Village apartment on September 14, 2022 at around 12.40pm, and investigating officers are keen to find the man in the picture as he may be able to help with their enquiries.
The appeal has been posted to Facebook, where users have been quick to poke fun at the man, whose face can be seen clearly in the image. One commenter asked: “Did he just catch sight of himself in a mirror?” Another commented “go go gadget arm” in reference to the similarities between the man’s headwear and that of cartoon character Inspector Gadget.

The appeal was originally posted by the city centre team on December 30, but it was reshared by South Yorkshire Police today (January 5). Anyone who recognises the man is asked to get in touch with the force by either using their online portal, live chat or by calling 101, referencing incident number 341 of September 15, 2022.
