As reported by The Star last week, the arsonist struck on Hinde House Lane shortly before 12.30am on Tuesday, January 14.

The CCTV footage – which has been released today – shows the offender deliberately pouring an accelerant around the Chevrolet and in front of the vehicle before lighting it.

The criminal then runs away as the car bursts into flames.

The owner of the car – who did not want to be named – told of his horror at the crime, which he believes was a targeted attack.

“I’m the nicest person in the area,” he said.

“No other cars were damaged – just mine.

“I feel shocked that someone would do this and target me.”

He added: “The police have told me this is an arson attack and that they are investigating this matter.

“I want to know if any witnesses saw this or even have cameras in the area they can watch.”

South Yorkshire Police confirmed it was investigating the offence and issued a public appeal for information.
