It comes following appeals from residents in the area for heightened police presence after they claimed their neighbourhood had hit ‘rock bottom’ due to the crime taking place there.

Over the weekend (June 5-7) the Sheffield North East Neighbourhood team visited addresses around Idsworth Road and Wensley Street in relation to reports of ASB and noise nuisance. Sergeant Phil Mackey said: “We know people want to see more of us and want us to be more visible. There is an increased number of officers in the area at the moment, providing a more visible presence.“On Friday night we were also carrying out vehicle checks and stop searches in the Page Hall area, acting on reports from the public about concerns around drug dealing.

“One driver we stopped was found to be in possession of a significant amount of cannabis. He also failed a roadside drugs test and was swiftly detained. It’s important we take these people off our roads.” Last week, the team also carried out a number of warrants, including one under the Dangerous Dogs Act at an address on Hamilton Road following reports of concern for the welfare of animals at the property.

During searches of the property, officers seized a quantity of prepared cannabis. Animal checks were carried out and enquiries continue.

Officers were also joined by the local authority’s noise enforcement team to respond to reports of anti-social behaviour in Wade Street.

Sgt Mackey added: “We’d had reports of people congregating around a particular property in the street. Yesterday (Sunday 7 June), we issued a Community Protection Warning notice to occupants at the address. This is the first step to a full CPN (Community Protection Notice) being issued. We use these to deter persistent anti-social behaviour; failure to comply can lead to a fine, remedial action or a court order.
