Police chiefs ordered extra reassurance patrols to restore calm in Darnall after gunmen opened fire on Saturday night - injuring two men.

Emergency services were deployed when a group of men burst into a house on Shirland Place at 10.09pm and shot two men, aged 34 and 27, in the property.

They were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.

Three men, aged 40, 32 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder shortly after the shooting being before released under investigation.

Armed police were also deployed to Darnall on Saturday, January 4 after a man was shot on Staniforth Road.

Two arrests were made over the earlier incident but no charges have yet been brought.
