Family heartbroken at theft of pet dog from house in Sheffield

A Sheffield family has been left heartbroken after a thief walked into their home to steal their pet dog.

The French bull dog was stolen from the kitchen of a house on Jaunty Crescent, Basegreen, overnight on Monday into the early hours of today.

Owner Beckie Spooner, aged 27, was asleep upstairs with her two-year-old son while her partner was at work when their home was broken into.

The thief or thieves responsible snatched the lilac and tan coloured dog, which the family has had for around a year, and they also stole some bottles of Stella Artois and a bottle of Bucks Fizz from the fridge.

Ms Spooner said: “It is heartbreaking, absolutely devastating, because he was not just a pet but a part of the family.”

She said the kitchen door had been left accidentally left unlocked on the night of the break-in.
