Five men arrested in connection with Sheffield shooting

Five men from Sheffield have been arrested in connection with a shooting in the city earlier this month.

Police were called to Machon Bank at around 6.50pm on Friday 8 May following reports of shots being fired. Evidence of a firearms discharge was found at the scene but no one was injured.

The incident was one of four shootings in a 24-hour period in Sheffield between 7 and 8 May. Police believe all of the shootings were targeted attacks.

In response, a Sheffield councillor has called for tighter controls on gun shops as the shootings followed a break-in at a city gunsmiths.

Five men - two aged 20, and the others 23, 31 and 39 – have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences in connection with the Machon Bank incident, police confirmed.

They have all been released on bail while enquiries continue. A 20-year-old man has already been charged with possession with intent to supply in relation to the investigation.

Detective chief inspector Jamie Henderson said: “I want people to be reassured that we are working hard to investigate all these offences. They were taken to hospital, but their injuries were not serious.Then, at around 2am on Friday 8 May, police were called to Club Garden Road in Sharrow after reports shots had been fired at a property. A 53-year-old man suffered injuries to his arm and leg and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Friday evening, officers attended the incident on Machon Bank, and just over half an hour later a gun was fired at a house on nearby Union Road.
