Huge crowd gathers in Sheffield park as worried dog walker issues lockdown warning

A dog walker spotted a DJ, complete with decks and speakers, performing to crowds of young people who gathered at Bolehills, Crookes, yesterday afternoon.

She said she understands that a second DJ also set up in the park later in the night as crowds continued to grow.

The video, which has been been shared online, shows groups clearly ignoring social distancing rules – angering those adhering to government guidance aimed at reducing the spread of coronavirus.

The woman who shot the video said: “I understand that young people are finding all this hard but we are so close to locking ending now that to see this was really frustrating.

“From what I can gather there was no trouble such as fighting or anything like that and it all appeared to be good natured but we all have to be in this together if we are ever going to beat this virus and things like this just don’t help.

“I could not believe my eyes when I saw a DJ with his decks and speakers.

“Apparently all the local supermarkets and shops were full of people all talking about going to Bolehills yesterday.”

Another Crookes resident said the crowds are a regular occurrence.

“It's a joke. I know we can meet outdoors now as that is what people will say but this is absolutely ridiculous. They don't care,” he said.

“My daughter takes our dog on there and it stinks of weed, litter everywhere.”

Another resident added: “We are almost there, everyone has made sacrifices missing family, friends, births, deaths. I think is is selfish in the extreme.

“I get they are young and fed up and they mix in schools and student homes but it’s putting the wider community at risk .

“My other thoughts are what would be the response of a large group gathered playing music, with a DJ, in the middle of Page Hall? There would be uproar. Why is S10 so different?”
