Man arrested on suspicion of murder after woman killed in early morning incident

The woman, believed to be in her 50’s, was found at a property on Brierfield Close, Barnlsey, with serious injuries at around 12.30am on Tuesday.

She was taken to hospital where she died a short time later.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is now in custody.

A police spokesperson said: “A man is in custody this morning after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

"Emergency services were called just after 12.30am this morning to reports a woman had been injured at a property on Brierfield Close, Barnsley.

"On arrival at the scene, officers found a woman believed to be in her 50's with serious injuries. She was taken to hospital where she sadly died a short time later.

"A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

"Formal identification of the woman and a post mortem examination are yet to take place.

"There will be a police presence in Brierfield Close today while officers carry out their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.”
