Parents alerted after man is seen taking photos outside Sheffield primary school

Birley Spa Primary Academy in Hackentorpe has written to parents and carers to inform them of a suspicious incident outside the school grounds yesterday.

A man was seen taking photographs with a camera and the incident was reported to South Yorkshire Police.

The force said: “Police were called at 4.45pm yesterday following reports that a man had been behaving in a suspicious manner.

“It is reported that a man was seen by a member of the public near to Birley Spa Primary School earlier in the day and his behaviour caused the member of the public concern.

“The matter was reported to the school, who also notified police.”

The school said: “We are aware of an incident that was reported yesterday of a man taking photographs outside the school grounds.

“In line with our usual safeguarding procedures, school staff immediately surveyed the local area and informed South Yorkshire Police.”
