Police helicopter spotted in sky above Sheffield was ‘searching for injured man’

A police helicopter was used in the search for an injured man in a Sheffield suburb.

It was scrambled after officers were called by paramedics to a property on Aughton Lane, Aston, at 6.45am yesterday after a man was found with serious cuts to his head.

When officers arrived the man had left.

The 25-year-old was eventually located at the rear of the property and was taken to hospital, where his injury is described as serious but not life threatening.

He was also arrested on suspicion of burglary and harassment, not related to yesterday’s incident.

A 20-year-old woman from Sheffield was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She was later released on police bail.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Police searched the area and requested assistance from the National Police Air Service as they were concerned for the safety of the man.”
